SCP-714, also known as The Jaded Ring, is a heroic item in the SCP Foundation series. It is a ring that can protect people.

History

It's unknown where SCP-714 was discovered but it was possibly discovered in a shop.

Power and Abilites

Size Adaptation:

• SCP-714 can expand and contract to perfectly fit the finger of anyone who touches it. This size change occurs only when touched by a new subject.

Exhaustion and Compulsion to Rest/Sleep:

• Wearers of SCP-714 feel physically and mentally exhausted within minutes of putting it on. This leads to a compulsion to sit down and rest, often resulting in sleep within a few hours.
• If a wearer falls asleep with SCP-714 on, the only way to wake them is by removing the ring. Once removed, wearers can be woken up by normal means.
• The exhaustion effects subside within two to three hours of removing SCP-714 if the wearer is awake; those who slept while wearing it feel well-rested even after a few minutes of sleep.
• If SCP-714 is not removed, wearers may die of dehydration or starvation within days. The impact on aging remains untested.
• Tired wearers are at risk of falling asleep on their feet. Without nearby furniture, they may stand in place or try to create a resting place from available materials.
• Resisting the urge to sleep requires strong willpower and self-control.

Slowed Reactions and Sluggish Movement:

• Wearers suffer from severely impaired reaction times, struggling with even simple tasks like catching a slow-moving object.
• Movements become slow and deliberate, akin to a normal walking pace at best. Physical exertion becomes nearly impossible.

Reduced Mental Capacity:

• Wearers experience mental fatigue, reporting that they "think slowly" and have difficulty finding words. They struggle with answering even simple questions.
• Mental clarity is restored within a few minutes of removing SCP-714.

Mental 'Shield':

• Wearers show high resilience to memetic and mental influences, particularly immediate commands or effects. Weaker influences may be completely nullified.
• The wearer feels a strong fear of the source of influence, driving them to seek shelter or attempt to destroy the source.
• This shielding effect lasts only as long as SCP-714 is worn.
• Wearers are still at risk from memetic influences that do not take immediate effect. Normal handling procedures apply to such exposures.
• Shocking or disturbing content has little effect on wearers, who will not recall seeing it once SCP-714 is removed. Mundane persuasion techniques also have no effect.

Chemical Tolerance:

• SCP-714 wearers have reduced sensitivity to chemicals that affect neural or nervous functions, such as stimulants or sedatives. Toxic substances are not significantly hindered.
• The nullification effect ends instantly upon removal of SCP-714. Overdose effects from substances can still occur while wearing the ring.

Indestructibility and Self-Repair:

• SCP-714 ceases to function if significantly damaged (e.g., broken into pieces). However, it will gradually reform if the pieces are placed close together, flowing like liquid to become whole again.
• SCP-714 has reformed even from a fine powder, though this takes longer. It is theorized it could recover from complete vaporization, but testing this has been deemed unnecessary due to its low threat level.

In SCP - Containment Breach

SCP-714 can be found in a storage chamber along with SCP-860 and SCP-1025. The player must have a key card of at least level 3 or higher in order to enter its room.

When worn, the ring will reduce the player's sprint bar considerably (down to two), which can cause difficulty if attempting to escape certain hazards. The ring can be taken off, though, and effects are not permanent. In exchange for the lowered stamina, SCP-714 will provide defense against a number of hazards, including SCP-049's lethal touch, SCP-895's camera feed, any "diseases" that would've been obtained by reading SCP-1025, SCP-1123's hallucinations and SCP-012's mind-affecting properties.

Using SCP-420-J while wearing SCP-714 will have no effect, and causes a piece of text on the bottom of the screen to appear, reading: "DUDE WTF THIS SHIT DOESN'T EVEN WORK".
