Heroism Wiki

The MX 5000 is the titular protagonist of the 1987 arcade shoot 'em up Flak Attack. An advanced multi-role aircraft built by the Rahuannis Kingdom, it was created as the bane to the Tesaris Empire's plans for world domination.

History[]

The Tesaris Empire, a militarist state which seeks global hegemony, declares war against the more benign Rahuannis Kingdom. During an unprovoked surprise attack, the Tesaris Empire's imperial air force bombarded the Rahuannis Kingdom's primary military base, crippling its air force. In retaliation, the Rahuannis Kingdom launches the MX 5000, an advanced fighter jet to turn the tide against the empire by locating and destroying the Tesaris Empires's supercomputer, the Zeta-X.

Snapshot 019

The MX 5000 travels through four different environments: a city, a volcanic lake, a jungle, and a snowy mountain range. In each environment, the fighter jet plows through numerous Tesaris forces, before crushing a boss that leads the forces in that area. Once the four environments are cleared, the MX 5000 locates the headquarters where the supercomputer is being housed. The jet infiltrates the base, battling through its heavy defenses. Once that the center, the MX 5000 locates the supercomputer and battles it. The Zeta-X is well-prepared, as it fights back the fighter jet with an array of defensive measures in the form of enemy aircraft and weapons. Despite this however, the MX 5000 manages to destroy the computer, effectively rendering the Tesaris Empire powerless as a result.

But MX 5000 has not truly won the war, as Tesaris Empire somehow recovers its war potential from its defeat and reinvades Rahuannis kingdom in revenge. And once again MX 5000 scrambles to defeat Tesaris Empire - this time for good. (this is the second loop of the game where MX 5000 must repeat the whole game from the first stage) Repeating the entire battle it had from the previous war, Mx 5000 ultimately reengages Zeta-X and after a second intense duel to the death, MX 5000 destroys and shuts down Zeta-X for good. Following the second war, the MX 5000 returns to base where its pilot is hailed as a hero.

The MX 5000 makes a guest appearance in Airforce Delta Strike as part of the Konami Legacy Aircraft collection. In-game it is named the MX5000. The plane itself is very powerful with high stats in all its categories. It features a rare and very useful special weapon called the Multi-Lock Air-to-Surface Missile, which is ridiculously powerful against ground targets. In addition, the aircraft makes a great dogfighter in anti-air combat. Overall, it is a great choice for all types of players.

Weapons[]

The MX 5000 has only two upgradable weapons: a machine gun for air-to-air combat, and a missile for air-to-ground combat. Unlike most shoot 'em ups, the jet has a unique way of upgrading its weapons: by means of two separate power meters called "Plane" and "Tank" which increase when either air or ground enemies are destroyed in combat. The more enemies are destroyed, the quicker and more power meters fill up so destroying enemy minions as many as possible is recommended. Plane meter is indicated in blue and Tank meter is indicated in orange. Once the meter(s) are filled, a power-up will appear which when obtained will upgrade the corresponding weapon.

  • Machine Gun - the default air-to-air weapon of the MX 5000, it fires two streams of bullets, which can destroy most air enemies quickly.
    • Laser - when the "Plane" meter is filled for the first time, and the MX 5000 obtains its respective power-up, it will begin firing a laser. The laser only fires single stream, but it makes up for it by being able to fire more shots at a time, in addition, the laser is capable of penetrating through most air enemies.
      • Twin Laser - when the "Plane" meter is filled for the second time, and the MX 5000 obtains its respective power-up, it will begin firing a twin laser. This weapon now fires an additional laser per shot, effectively doubling the firepower of the aircraft.
  • Air-to-Ground Missiles - the default air-to-ground weapon of the MX 5000, it deploys a single bomb that can destroy most ground enemies in a single explosion. When the "Tank meter is filled for the first time, and the MX 5000 obtains its respective power-up, the number of missiles deployed will increase to three, which are fired in a spread. When the second power-up is obtained, the number of missiles deployed increases to five.

Trivia[]

  • MX5000 's international title is Flak Attack. Flak is a military slang for army's anti-aircraft capability, which makes the alternate title rather inappropriate as this game is about an aircraft wreaking havoc upon enemy armed forces from air.
  • The MX 5000 is likely based on (or possibly is) an F-15 Eagle.
