The Metallic Uniframe Super Hybrid Armor, also known as MUSHA Aleste or simply MUSHA is the titular protagonist of the 1990 Sega Genesis shoot 'em up M.U.S.H.A.: Metallic Uniframe Super Hybrid Armor. It is a large flying Armed Armor mech sent as part of the M.U.S.H.A Team to stop the rogue supercomputer Dire 51 from destroying humanity. It is considered the strongest of the Armed Armor mechs, allowing it to possess a number of useful weapons that it can utilize in combat.
History[]
In the year 2290 A.D. (the 91st century in the Japanese Version), humanity has manage to expand its colonization across the Solar System, having manage to establish numerous colonies across various planets, moon, and space stations in areas known as the LaGrange points. The most notable LaGrange point is LaGrange Gamma (LaGrange 2 in the Japanese Version), located on the far side of the Moon; this particular station is equipped with the supercomputer known as Dire 51, which is regarded as having the highest intelligence across all the colonies. But Dire 51 wasn't all it seemed..., for one day the supercomputer suddenly went rogue and desired to conquer the Solar System. Using its vast intelligence, the supercomputer quickly overran LaGrange Gamma and built a massive robotic army, which spread across the other LaGrange points, wiping them out in the process. To make matters worse, scientists were unable to determine what caused Dire 51 to suddenly malfunction and turn against humanity. Eventually Dire 51 built itself its own body in the form of an Armed Armor mech, before turning its sites toward Earth and prepared to launch a large-scale invasion on the planet. Though Earth's defenses were well-prepared for such an invasion, the battle appeared to be dangerously close. To counter this, Earth calls in the M.U.S.H.A Team to gain the decisive advantage against this formidable enemy. Led by Ellinor Waizen (Terri in the US Version), the team engages in battle with Dire 51's army, but unfortunately all mechs except for Ellinor's are destroyed in the initial battle. It is up to Ellinor, along side her Armed Armor mech the MUSHA to stop Dire 51 from destroying humanity.
MUSHA confronts the enemy in various environments, and despite the odds stacked against it, it manages to cripple Dire 51's forces overtime, along the way the mech encounters and briefly battles Dire 51 in various forms, initially overpowering it before it is forced to temporarily retreat. After seemingly destroying the supercomputer in a prolonged battle, the mech warps to an alternate dimension where it confronts the core of the supercomputer, there it confronts the core of the supercomputer and engages in a decisive battle, despite the supercomputer taking advantage of the environment to crush the mech, MUSHA ultimately manages to eliminate the core and retreat from the dimension.
Believing that it has succeeded in its mission, MUSHA begins to dock on a nearby mothership, but in a twist of fate, the initial mothership is destroyed by a barrage of lasers what were fired by none other than Dire 51 itself, having managed to survive the previous battle. The two mech engage in one last battle, and thanks to the crippled state of Dire 51, MUSHA ultimately prevails in battle and destroys the supercomputer for good. With humanity saved, MUSHA docks on a second mothership.
During the epilogue, Ellinor is rushed to the ship's infirmary where she is subsequently treated for the injuries she sustained during the mission, eventually making a full recovery. Meanwhile, the wreckage of Dire 51 are seen floating in space, with a strange green glow being emitted from its remains...
Weapons[]
MUSHA is equipped with a total of five different weapons, a primary weapon, three special weapons, and a pair of options. The special weapons can be obtained by specific power-ups that are dropped by shooting carrier ships. Each weapon can be upgraded by means of collecting Power Chips or the corresponding power-ups for the currently equipped special weapon. All weapons can be powered up to four times. If MUSHA takes any form of damage while a special weapon is quipped, it will lose that weapon as well as its options, without a special weapon, the mech will be destroyed.
- Seal Cluster - Musha's main shot, it fires a single rapid-fire stream of bullets straight forward. By collecting Power Chips, the spread as well as the number of bullets fired will increase to a maximum of four.
- Blazing Beam - fires a lightning beam forward. The beam deals high damage and can penetrate through most enemies, making them the most effective weapon when dealing with bosses. When upgraded, Musha will be able to fire two beams simultaneously, in addition the width and damage of the two beams will increase.
- Vanishing Buster - fires a volley of bombs that explode after traveling a short distance, dealing splash damage from the resulting explosions. When upgraded, the bombs will spread out to cover a larger area. At max power, the explosion will create black holes that cover a must larger area.
- Defensive Detonator - displays a large energy ball that revolves around the mech, dealing contact damage to any enemy that comes close to it. When upgraded, a second ball will revolve around the mech. At max power, Musha will began to fire energy bolts forward, dealing high damage.
- Options - when MUSHA obtains three Power Chips, it will deploy an option that flanks the side of the mech, providing additional firepower in the form of a rapid-fire star-shaped shot. n Up to two options can be equipped to MUSHA at any given time. The mech is capable of switching the firing orientation of the options by pressing the secondary fire button. The six formations are:
- Forward - the options fire forward in the same direction as MUSHA's armaments.
- 3-Way - the options fire at a 45 degree angle forward, providing a wider spread.
- Back - the options fire backwards at a 45 degree angle.
- Reverse - the options will fire in the oppotsite direction that MUSHA travels.
- Roll - the options will revolve around MUSHA, firing as they rotate around the mech.
- Free - the options will track down the nearest enemies and fire upon them until they are destroyed.
