Ixion model

Ixion was conceived and created by the new Cranassian military under a top-secret project codenamed XTF program to enhance the power of jet engines which proved themselves during the Operation Hell Dive, a part of decisive battle took place in Raiden Fighters 2: Operation Hell Dive. When Ixion was forged, times couldn't be any greater for the new generational jet: the new government scored another tremendous victory against the enemy state headed by the ousted dictator. Occupied territories were liberated and reintegrated into the new government's control, and the enemy forces were silent as they went into hiding. Yet, the enemy's fighting potential had not been totally uprooted as they are still producing war machines. The Ixion is built for the purpose of giving the new government military total air superiority and to eradicate the enemy nation's fighting capability permanently. Due to the incredibly advanced technology involved and high cost, only one Ixion (or two Ixions if playing in co-op mode. But in Xbox's adaptation Raiden Fighters Aces, Ixion is once again changed into only one) was produced and only an ace of aces who can pass the extremely demanding simulation battles with a high grade, are granted the prestige to fly the Ixion.

As candidate pilots of Ixion undergo an intense simulation training, the simulation machine would treat candidates to various combat simulations featuring enemies from previous Great Wars. Pitilessly testing pilots' skills to the max, the simulation computer at the end of each virtual battles judges aftermath results and would eventually decide whether the candidate pilots are excellent enough or not to pilot Ixion. If a pilot performs poorly such as dying often, he/she is told to do better (meaning the candidate pilot failed the test), and the game ends prematurely. Simulation level 45 is the turning point: if a pilot performs excellent, he/she will pass the simulation test. But if the candidate pilot performs either poorly or proficiently enough but underperforms at other quotas (such as using too much smart bombs, collecting too less of particular medals etc.) The candidate pilot will be taken to level 50, which is dead-end. After completing level 50, the candidate is told that while he/she got a passable grade, he/she can still aim for the higher goal and the game ends.

If the candidate pilot has passed the simulation test - before even having a time to celebrate, the pilot receives an urgent report: an enemy force has amassed and attacked a city belonging to the new government. The pilot who just passed the simulation test is ordered to fly Ixion and repel enemy raiders. Flying over the night sky over a city, Ixion waged a vicious battle against enemy raiders that threw every crafts it had against Ixion. After clearing away waves of enemy fighters, Ixion engaged and destroyed the leader of the raiders named Jasper Virtuos, a massive quadcopter in a duel to the death. Hardly having a time to catch a breath, a new emergency order came up: enemy raiders in the city were just a diversion, and enemy's main forces have launched a general attack on the new government's weapons factory where a prototype experimental jet bomber XTB-1 is housed. Ixion hurriedly flies to the weapons factory to extricate it.

When Ixion arrived, the enemy unit was about to take over the factory. Once again fighting through waves after waves of enemy air force as well as army, Ixion wages the enemy leader Simon Quartz and destroys it after a fierce battle. This is where another assessment awaits: if Ixion suffered at least one loss during real battle phase 1 (battle over the city), Ixion receives bad news from the headquarter that though the enemy attackers are defeated, they served their purpose as spies succeeded in stealing vital datas from XTF and XTB programs and got away while enemy attackers bought spies' time. It would only be a matter of time enemy forces will build powerful weaponry just like the new government and a new war will soon be unleashed, and the game ends. But if Ixion made it all the way to the factory without suffering any losses, enemy spies steal XTB-1 and flee.

Spies originally intended to steal valuable data from XTF and XTB programs only, while their compatriots buy them time but with Ixion's arrival and intervention in a timely manner spoiled their original schemes. With Simon Quartz destroyed, spies had to alter their plan so they stole XTB-1. Headquarter ordered Ixion to pursue, intercept and destroy XTB-1 to prevent it from falling into enemy hands. Ixion does so and after battling what is left of enemy escort fighters and XTB-1, Ixion manages to destroy the prototype jet bomber. However, in an act of final spite, enemy spies inside XTB-1 launched a weapon of mass destruction attached to the bomber towards the new government's military headquarter moments before meeting their doom by Ixion. Ixion's final task is to destroy the flying WMD before it reaches the Ixion's military HQ, which Ixion succeeds also.

As Ixion head towards its base, headquarters informs that in spite of Ixion's prompt action and enemy forces receiving crippling damage yet again, the weapons factory was heavily damaged, and its recapture came at a great cost. But there is one bright side to this battle: the real-life combat data gathered from this battle provided numerous useful information and necessary experience to the XTF project, contributing greatly to its future development.

Powers and abilities[]

Ixion's weapons are pretty similar to some of the previous fighters from Raiden Fighters 2: Operation Hell Dive. For instance, its missiles are fully powered-up versions of the Dark Sword with the charged attack sending a barrage of these missiles, but its laser powers are thin purple versions of the laser of Raiden II, and the charge attack is four purple giga lasers being fired all at once, making this a powerful full-flexed fighter.
