The Hazbin Hotel is the titular main setting of the adult animated musical dark comedy series Hazbin Hotel

History[]

Unlike most versions of Hell, the Hell of this setting does not have unlimited space. To prevent overpopulation, once a year angels from heaven descend to exterminate some of Hell's denizens, causing them to cease to exist. Such violence breaks the heart of Lucifer's daughter, Princess Charlotte Morningstar, or "Charlie" as she calls herself. Hoping to find a way to find a way to solve Hell's overpopulation problem without violence or punishment, Charlie founded and built the Hazbin Hotel "Happy Hotel" with her girlfriend, Vaggie.

The hotel's first patron was Angel Dust, a drug-addicted porn star, former mobster, film actor, and spider demon. Despite showing progress, Angel still has a long way to go as he still sometimes reverts back to violent and erotic behavior. (Though unbeknownst to Charlie, he really checked in to get away from his abusive and rapist boss, Valentino)

After another purge, Charlie announced the hotel on 666 news, only to be laughed at and ridiculed by all of Hell, which led to a fight on TV, just as Angel got involved in one of Hell's turf wars.

After the violence stopped, Charlie, Vaggie, and Angel returned to the hotel. After being berated for getting involved in turf wars and putting the hotel's reputation in question, he did show some remorse for causing Charlie harm on TV.

After calling her mother, Lilith, for advice and leaving a message, Charlie was visited by Alastor, the radio demon, who offered to help the hotel, even though he did not believe in redemption and only wanted to take pleasure in seeing demons fail at redemption. He even brought in two other demons to add to the staff, Niffty, another spider demon to act as a janitor, and Husk, to run the bar, much to Vaggie's annoyance. As it seemed the Hotel was about to get a good start, it was attacked by the demon lord Sir Pentious, who was effortlessly defeated by Alastor, though Pentious survived.

Design[]

Exterior[]

The Hazbin Hotel exterior is a tall, elaborate amalgamation of arched windows and turrets, one of which seems to be broken.

It appears to be at least seven stories tall, with at least five of which being guest floors. Remnants of an airship, an ocean liner, a sailing ship, and a carousel litter both sides and appear to have been incorporated into the structure of the building itself; there is also a train with some tracks looping the first and second-floor exterior. Located on the top right of the building is a small radio broadcasting room, used presumably as the work area and living space for Alastor.

Many signs are displayed outside the hotel: One atop the entrance reminiscent of the Hazbin Hotel logo, a large pink one atop the building with the hotel's name in lights, a neon 'HOTEL' sign at the bottom right and atop the building where Alastor's broadcast room is located, a small 'On-Air' sign is visible. Also located on the outer facade are various arrows pointing to the entrance and the broadcast room.

The entrance has a tented cover with a booth in the center reminiscent of a circus or theater ticket booth. On either side of the booth is a set of double doors that have stained glass; in the pilot, they depicted an apple on each one but were destroyed by an explosion due to Sir Pentious blowing up the doors with his airship.

Interior[]

The hotel's interior is shown to be in a state of disrepair, with wooden boards covering shattered windows, signs warning of asbestos, bloodied tools left lying around, and paintings hanging off the walls. Much of the furniture in the lobby is strewn around haphazardly or remains boxed up in several large wooden crates.

The Caviar Bar uses skeletons, snakes, and bones as general themes, along with card suits and candles, and advertises itself as a casino.

Though the sign is cut off in the shot, the word 'concierge' can be presumed to be shown above the bar, and Alastor calls it the front desk when talking to Husk, suggesting that it is also the check-in counter. Despite the shabby and poor condition of the hotel, the overall theme of the building remains ornate and regal, with stained glass windows, lavish furniture, and generous usage of gold. Like the rest of Hell, the hotel has a largely red color scheme. There are many apple, snake, and circus motifs throughout the hotel's interior, in reference to the royal family, or more specifically, Lucifer Morningstar. Eyes are also a recurring theme throughout the building, appearing on the frame of almost every single painting and several vases and jars.

At the end of the pilot, the sign name is changed from the "Happy Hotel" to "Hazbin Hotel" by Alastor.
