Druidia, also known as Planet Druidia, is the fictional planet in the film Spaceballs. This rich terrestrial planet is the homeworld of its aristocratic human-like people known as the Druidians (also known as "Druids").
Overview[]
Druidia consists of the kingdom of King Roland led by his daughter and heir Princess Vespa. It is right next door to Planet Spaceball on the other side of the galaxy. It has many natural resources, mainly a large supply of air. Druidian air is so fresh and abundant they have made a business of canning and exporting it to other planets, as evidenced by a can that say "Perri-Air: Imported from Druidia". President Skroob and Dark Helmet (as well as their henchmen the Spaceballs) want to suck the air out of Planet Druidia and use it to save Planet Spaceball (which would also destroy Druidia), but thanks to Lone Starr and the power of The Schwartz, they fail.
The Druidians have built a planetary shield to defend themselves.
Geography[]
Druidia is a world with mountains, forests, and oceans.
Society[]
In the planet's cities are castles, citadels, and even church-like temples, most notable the First Intergalactic Temple (Reformed) of the Druids. The cities have large public fountains and the temples with occasional bingo plays.
The Druidians dress in clothes resembling those worn during the Renaissance Era, even though it is the year 2001. The planet is ruled by King Roland and his daughter, the Princess Vespa.
Druidia is most noted for its fresh air. The planet's economy includes the selling of canned "Perri Air" to other planets. The planet's fresh air is even protected by an airshield that has been set up around. The planet glistens like a marble and underneath the airshield is fresh air that lasts for at least 10,000 years.
Trivia[]
- The planet is a parody of the planet Alderaan from the Star Wars franchise, except it is never destroyed by the antagonists.
- Legendary movie director Mel Brooks chose the name "Druidia" not as a made-up jest upon the name of ancient Celtic priests but also to set up a gag in which Lone Starr calls Vespa a "Druish Princess", a pun on "Jewish Princess".
