During an invasion by the forces led by ambitious Dr. Gengar, Dr. Kaga who is the project leader of the "Burning Project" is kidnapped. Burning Project was a classified military project which consisted of the world's most brilliant intellectuals set out to create an ultimate superweapon which would give the Defense Forces a decisive advantage over Dr. Gengar's military. Dr. Kaga was abducted when the ultimate superweapon from the Burning Project was finally completed. Fortunately, a microfilm containing the data of the superweapon was secured and was handed over to the two female pilots that are part of the project (who also happen to be sisters of the kidnapped doctor) board the prototype spacecrafts Dragon and Phoenix to fight back against the enemy and rescue the leader. Each craft has its own unique load out, as well as two special weapons to complete the mission successfully.

The two fighters travel to two environments on Earth, a city and a desert, where they battle through the enemy's army. After clearing out the enemy on the planet, they then travel into space where they proceed to fight off the retreating forces. Eventually they destroy an enemy-occupied dock before locating the leader's position on a battleship in the middle of the ocean. After destroying the battleship's defenses, the leader attempts to fight back using a modified airship. Dragon and Phoenix battle the ship in a two-part battle, before successfully destroying it. Following the airship's destruction, Dr. Kaga is rescued from its floating debris and the three project members reunite.

Weapons[]

Both Dragon and Phoenix have three different weapons: a primary shot, and two secondary shots in the form of side guns and missiles. All shots can be fired simultaneously, however each craft's shots differ significantly in appearance and performance. The secondary shots must be obtained by collecting their respective "B" and "M" power-ups by means of destroying floating capsules that regularly appear in-game. In addition, only the primary shot can be upgraded by means of collecting "P" power-ups.
