Chaser is a class of fighters in every installment of Raiden Fighters series. Chasers are created in polar opposite concept of Beast class fighters by going all-in on agility. Although very successful in being very fast and maneuverable, Chaser's agility is achieved at the expense of its firepower. Being too fast means hard to maneuver under rains of enemy fire, its main shots are too focused to deal with enemies coming from diagonal directions and weaker in power in comparison to Beast class fighters.
Roles[]
Chaser[]
Chaser is a w-winged agile fighter that appears exclusively in Raiden Fighters, which was reformatted as the Chaser 2000 later on. It was conceived as a high-speed, high-altitude interceptor. When the Great War between the dictator's forces and revolutionaries broke out, Chaser was deployed along with its sister fighters from Gun Dog squadron to defeat the dictator's military. Flying through various enemy territories with incredible speed Chaser proved more than capable in battle, though its firepower leaves a bit to be desired. After destroying 2 Battalions which were creams of the dictator's military, Chaser and its fellow Gun Dog fighters penetrated into the enemy's final defense line, braving ferocious resistance from the enemy's last remaining battalion and eventually destroyed the enemy's final fortress that served as their HQ.
The battle is won by the revolutionaries thanks to activity of Chaser and Gun Dog squadron. The dictator's faction suffered tremendous blow and was forced to abandon its capital as they were routed. Finally, a long period of intense war is finished, and everyone thought they could expect peace for some time. After the war ended, an assessment was made by the newly formed government military now run by the victorious revolutionary. Although Chaser was a very successful speedy fighter, its high cost of production and maintenance hampered its full potential. The counter this, the aircraft was completely redesigned using new techniques, as the "2000" variant. As a result, the redesign retained the performance of the original but without the high cost.
Chaser 2000[]
Chaser 2000 is the m-winged and revamped craft of Chaser in both Raiden Fighters 2: Operation Hell Dive with the predecessor's capabilities such as agility and rapid firing main weapons. Unfortunately, the predecessor's issues with weak offense power still remains to be desired. Aside from shapes of wingspans, The C2K's Laser had been changed to Homing Deflector Beam or Chain Laser, is a huge improvement over the original Chaser's Serpentine Lock-On Beam. The Chain Laser cuts through multiple enemies while seeking them out. The Charged Laser is the same as the original Chaser's, exactly like the Raiden mk-II's Purple Lock-On Plasma Laser. The Missile Weapon is the same as the original Chaser's. Even the dreaded "Missile Curtain" Charged special is back. With all tweaks and modification made, Chaser 2000 would be ready.
Four years have passed since the dictator's military had been driven from power. Refusing to acknowledge that the current government is legitimate, dictator's loyalists under his leadership established a new militarist nation, utilizing four years to rebuild their militaries and when the time seems to be right, they struck; overrunning the new fledging governmental forces and occupying regions aligned with the new government. Chaser 2000 and its Gun Dog fighters were deployed to repel the invaders and reclaim the lost regions in an operation called Hell Dive. Chaser 2000 swept with quickness and with its quickness brought death and destruction upon the dictator's military. Ultimately Chaser 2000 and its sister Gun Dog fighters took the battle to the enemy by smashing through their fortress, assaulting their hidden weapons factory and destroyed the enemy's secret weapon named Red Eye. Once more having dealt with devastating defeat, the enemy were forced to relinquish territories they occupied and fled. Much as Operation Hell Dive would go down in one of the most successful battles in military history, The enemy someday would recover and rise up again.
Raiden Fighters JET[]
Chaser 2000 makes its return in RF JET. Since Operation Hell Dive Chaser 2000 as well as its prop-engine sister fighters had been retired from frontline service as they became obsolete in an era of jet fighters. Nevertheless, Chaser 2000 gets converted into simulation mechanism, training future pilots to become efficient through various virtual reality battles fought in two previous Great wars. Should a pilot distinguish himself/herself in the virtual reality training which Chaser 2000 and other Gun Dog retired fighters offer, he/she may receive an honor of piloting the air force's newest jet fighter called Ixion. If the chosen pilot performs poorly, the simulation ends prematurely and is told to do better, and the game ends. But if the pilot passes simulation through impressive performance, he/she passes the training test and he/she receives an urgent order to scramble Ixion and fight the resurgent dictator's remnant forces in real battle. Chaser 2000 then is not seen again afterwards.
Powers and abilities[]
Both planes are suitable for the beginners, they are fast with a rapid firing rate. However they have the best Charged Specials out of all planes. The Charged Missile is deadly, letting literally hundreds of missiles fly. This special attack is affectionately called the "Missile Curtain" by die-hard RF players. The Charged Laser is exactly like Raiden MK-II 's Purple Lock-On Plasma.
