Whatever life holds in store for me, I will never forget these words: "With great power comes great responsibility."
Spider-Man has declared that this article is still under construction. |
The CS-05 Metal Stoker is the titular protagonist of the 1991 PC Engine shoot 'em up Metal Stoker: Neo Hard-Boiled Shooting . It is a main battle tank prototype that was built to be tested for future combat. At the time of the game's events, the tank is still in the testing phases and must go through a series of difficult simulation tests, or so its pilot thinks...
History[]
In the future, an unnamed female pilot is assigned the task by her superior to complete a training exercise within a virtual reality simulation using a prototype tank known as the CS-05 Metal Stoker. The tank is armed with five different weapons, and is capable of strafing in order to focus its aim in a particular direction or on a certain enemy.
The pilot uses the tank to complete seven increasingly difficult missions in simulated environments to defeat hordes of futuristic ground and air-based enemies, and at the end of each area, the tank must battle a boss. The final area has inaccessible data, requiring the tank to travel in the unknown whilst not letting its guard down, once clearing its defenses, it battles a seventh boss over the course of a three-part battle, and destroys it.
Once the final area is completed, the pilot receives commendations from her commander, but is also revealed that the entire simulation was actually a real battle aimed to destroy a particular terrorist organization. They inform her that a new assignment will come up in the near future, and that she has earn a well-deserve leave for her effort. They state that they will notify her when the time comes, before dismissing her. The pilot, at first responding with a deep chagrin, eventually resigns to take what she can get.
Weapons[]
The CS-05 Metal Stoker is armed with a total of five weapons, which are gradually obtained over the course of the "simulation". The tank can which between each weapon at any time. All weapons can be upgraded by obtaining the corresponding power pods twice in a row; these pods are lined throughout the battlefields. All weapons feature a unique ability to unleash a special attack by pressing the Select button. The color of the tank's module will change depending on which weapon is active.
- Machine Gun - the default weapon of the CS-05 Metal Stoker, it is a rapid-fire weapon with a very fast fire rate. When upgraded, the spread and the number of shots fired increases. When active, the tank's module will flash red.
- Laser Beam - fires a twin laser that can penetrate through most enemies. The lasers deal more damage than the machine gun, but have a slower fire rate and no spread. When upgraded, the laser's firepower will increase (indicated by the lasers changing color). When active, the tank's module will flash green.
- Mines - deploys mines behind the tank in rapid succession, which detonate if an enemy moves over them. When upgraded, the mines' damage will increase. When active, the tank's module will flash purple.
- Homing Missile - fires a volloy of missiles that track down the nearest enemies. They have high accuracy and movement speed, but cannot be fired until all missiles on field of vision in their targets or fly off the viewing area. When upgraded, the number of missiles fired will increase. When active, the tank's module will flash blue.
- Force Field - deploys a short range force field around the CS-05 Metal Stoker, which damages anything that comes in contact with it. When upgraded, the damage caused by the force field increases. When active, the tank's module will flash yellow.
- Energy - though not a weapon in any way, it is a vital tool that indicates the CS-05 Metal Stoker's health gauge. The tank is cable of taking four hits before being destroyed. The gauge will initially start out green, before changing to yellow, the red, and finally flashing red as the tank takes damage. Certain power pods can be obtained to replenish the gauge.
