The Aura Wings (in Japanese: オーラウィングス) are a pair of the main protagonist crafts from the 1991 Famicom shoot 'em up Crisis Force. They are ancient aircrafts created by the Mu Civilization more than ten thousand years ago to fight against Atlantis. The aircraft pair is capable of transforming into one of three forms, each with its own pair of weapons. The two pilots were born inside a life-support system contained within one such craft.
History[]

In the year 199X, two 17-year-old teenagers named Asuka and Maya, the twin children of archeologists, lived rather normal lives in the city of Tokyo. For some time though, they had an ominous nightmare that plagued them. In the dream, seven monsters sinking the ancient civilization of Atlantis. That all changed one day when that nightmare became reality, when Atlantis suddenly rose back up along with the seven revived monsters seen in twins' dream and launched an invasion against Earth. Modern weapons proved to be useless against Atlantis, and eventually the world was engulfed into a war with the ancient civilization. During the carnage, both of the children's parents were fatally wounded when Atlantis invaded Japan, but in their dying breath they revealed a deep secret: they were not their biological parents. Before their deaths, the couple revealed that 17 years earlier while exploring a deserted island, they uncovered an ancient aircraft built by the Mu Civilization more than ten thousand years earlier called the Aura Wing. Inside the aircraft, the couple found a life-support system that contained a pair of living infants. Those infants of course were Asuka and Maya, and they were the children of an ancient Mu hero who fought against Atlantis thousands of years ago to the bitter end.
Now aware of their true identities and purpose, the two teenagers realized only they could stop Atlantis' invasion, and board into the two surviving Aura Wings from the Mu Civilization, and launch a counterattack against Atlantis. The Aura Wings first fight off Atlantis' invasion on Tokyo, crushing it rather quickly thanks to their special powers. They then move on to different areas across Earth, where they confront and eliminate Atlantis' forces. As Atlantis' invasion begins to backfire, the two Aura Wings travel to Atlantis itself, where they battle through the ancient civilization's defenses, before making their way into its interior. There, they confront the civilization's leader, and destroy them. With Atlantis' invasion averted, the two teens fly the Aura Wings back to Tokyo in satisfaction. In hard difficulty setting, there is a post-credit scene: a severed wrist of the Atlantis tyrant sinks into the bottom of the ocean, its finger flicks with a light briefly before it goes off-line - thus leaving a question whether Atlantis is truly eradicated.
Crossover Appearances[]
Airforce Delta Strike[]

The red Aura Wing flown by Maya makes a guest appearance in Airforce Delta Strike in its Bird Form. In-game, the craft has all-around stats, with good mobility, defense, and anti-air attack. Its main weakness is that its thrust is notably lower than its mobility, which makes the aircraft difficult to maintain its speed correctly. Its special weapon is a powerful homing laser based on the red weapon used by its Crab Form, though its accuracy, while acceptable, isn't overly spectacular, making it useful only to enemy aircraft. Despite these flaws, the Aura Wing is still a pretty strong performer.
Weapons[]
The Aura Wing is capable of transforming into one of three forms at anytime: a Bird Form, a Sea Form, and a Crab Form. Each form specializes in a different offensive type, and has two different weapons which can be switched whenever the craft collects a capsule in the respective color of that weapon (either blue or red). These weapons can be upgraded up to three times, but if the Aura Wing takes damage of any form, it loses a stage of the upgrade. If the craft has no upgrades, it will be destroyed.
Bird Form[]

- Rapid Front Vulcan (Blue) - fires a standard vulcan cannon forward. When upgraded, the number of shots fired increases.
- Ring Laser (Red) - fires two laser bolts in a helix-shaped path forwards, the laser has a slow movement speed, but a wide coverage. When upgraded, the size of the bolts as well as the number fired increases.
Sea Form[]

- Back Vulcan (Blue) - fires two vulcan cannons, one forward and one behind the craft. When upgraded, the number of shots fired increases.
- Energy Circler (Red) - in addition to firing a a single vulcan cannon forward and two behind at 45 degree angles, two orbs will be released and begin circling around the craft, damaging anything that they touch. When upgraded, the number of shots and the strength of the orbs increases.
Crab Form[]

- Three Way Vulcan (Blue) - fires three vulcan cannons, one forwards, and two from the sides of the craft. When upgraded, the number of shots increases.
- Side Homing Lasers (Red) - fires two lasers from the sides of the craft, which will then track the nearest enemy until it lines up with them and then travels in their direction, an additional vulcan shot is fired forwards. When upgraded, the number of vulcan shots and lasers increases.
Union Form[]
- Spiral Beam - when enough "Union Parts" are collected, the Aura Wing will transform into a powerful form temporarily, while in this state, its weapon fired will be a blue beam that travels straightforwards, an additional red beam will be fired in a spiral pattern. Both beams deal heavy damage and can penetrate through most enemies.
- Bomb - deploys a cluster bomb that creates six orbs that expand around the field of vision. Each explosion does a lot of damage to anything it hits, and destroys enemy projectiles. The Aura Wing only has a limited supply though, and must replenish them regularly by collecting "B" power-ups. The Aura Wing can use this weapon in any of its forms.
